Tackling Language with
Kadoorie Foundation

The Tackling Language - Enhancing Second Language and Social Inclusion Program aims to improve second language skills and promote social inclusion among ethnic minority and underprivileged local students in Yuen Long and Kwai Tsing Districts. The program uses rugby to foster understanding and acceptance, while enhancing language proficiency.

Activities include play-based learning through rugby demonstrations, in-school training for teamwork and leadership, and joint training sessions to encourage interaction among students from diverse backgrounds. Parental engagement supports children's development, creating a holistic approach to language learning and inclusion. The program also provides job training for non-Chinese speaking youth, paving the way for employment in the sports industry. Overall, it strengthens language skills, builds community connections, and fosters a more inclusive environment.

Key Objectives

Promote Social Inclusion and Integration
Foster social inclusion and integration among students from different ethnic backgrounds.

Increase the Value of Second Language Learning
Enhance participants’ appreciation for second language learning while developing their confidence, enabling them to thrive within and outside of school environments.

Raise Parental Awareness and Support
Raise parents' awareness of their children's development and facilitate a more supportive environment for continued participation.

Offer job training and capacity-building opportunities for non-Chinese speaking youth.

Target Beneficiaries

Ethnic minority and underprivileged local students, aged 8-14, from 10 schools in Yuen Long and Kwai Tsing Districts.
