In Memory of Chris Howarth

Chris’s contribution to sport locally and internationally was wide ranging; he was a driving force behind the establishment of the Hong Kong China Waterski Association who he served as Chairman, Hon Treasurer and Hon Secretary, and a prominent member of the International Waterski and Wakeboarding Federation, serving as their Treasurer from 2003-17 and latterly as their Asia Secretary General and World Cup Chairman.  He was a stalwart of the Hong Kong Football Club rugby section, a former Treasurer of the then Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, a Trustee of the Union’s Charitable Trust Fund, and was a founding member of the Rugby Union Club.  He was a passionate sailor, who contributed both on the water with the Hong Kong Sailing Federation and off it through his association as both a writer, photographer and editor with Fragrant Harbour magazine.

Although Hong Kong had been his home for almost 50 years, Chris was born in Cheltenham, England, and was educated in Scotland at George Watson’s College, and he remained very actively engaged with his alma mater organising alumni events in Hong Kong.

The intention is that donations to Chris’s Fund will be used to support these causes that he was so passionate about, and help provide opportunities for thousands of youngsters to engage in sports in the years to come.
