Building Friendships and Promoting Inclusion: The Heart of Rugby in Hong Kong

Rugby is more than just a sport; it’s a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of camaraderie, resilience, and inclusivity.

Building on last year’s successful Inclusion Tournament, Rugby for Good hosted the inaugural Friendship Games drawing participants from diverse nationalities, age groups, professions, abilities and skill levels playing a full day of touch rugby.

Our unique approach was pairing two clubs together, encouraging them to interact and create friendships both on and off the field. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, cheers, and the unmistakable roar of teams rallying together.    One of the most heartwarming aspects of the tournament was witnessing friendships blossom among players. As teams battled it out on the field, they were not just competing for victory; they were building bonds that transcended cultural and language barriers. Players shared stories, celebrated each other’s successes, and offered encouragement during tough moments. The post-match celebrations were filled with shared meals, laughter, and the joy of new connections. This unity is a testament to rugby’s ability to forge friendships that last far beyond the final whistle.

As we look to kick off a new season of Rugby For Good projects, let’s remember the values that make this sport so special. Let’s continue to promote friendships, celebrate diversity, and ensure that everyone has a place on the field. The next tournament is just around the corner, and with it comes the promise of new connections, shared experiences, and the unbreakable bonds that rugby fosters. Together, let’s make every match an opportunity to lift each other up and create a more inclusive world, one try at a time.

This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of The Extra Mile charity initiative from the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, and without the collaboration of the teams, staff, referees involved. Thanks to all the participants!
