Athlete Story - Cado Lee

In sport, as in life, respect is more than a handshake. It’s a mindset that builds trust, fosters inclusion, and powers true teamwork.
Cado Lee, core member of the Hong Kong China Men’s Sevens team, shared his journey from local talent to playing in Japan’s top league, shaped his understanding of respect. On the field, he was challenged by cultural differences; off the field, he grew through them.
In a multicultural city like Hong Kong’s, where players speak different languages and come from diverse backgrounds, success is built on more than skill. It depends on mutual understanding, open communication, and a shared commitment to the team.
“Respect is the starting point of connection. True team spirit means understanding others, learning from them, and knowing we all have something to contribute.”
At Rugby For Good, we believe sport is a powerful classroom. Through our “Play, Plus” social development platform, and programmes like Buddy Rugby and Tackling Language, where real strength lies not just in physical ability, but in how we treat each other, with empathy, courage, and respect.
Let’s continue to use sport to cultivate the understanding of respect, is the first step in building something greater together.
