Hong Kong Sport & Sustainability Summit to Showcase Industry Leaders and Drive Positive Change



Hong Kong, March 2024 - Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR), supported by Brand Hong Kong, is proud to announce the inaugural Hong Kong Sport & Sustainability Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel. This event will bring together a global community of leaders, decision-makers, and passionate individuals committed to fostering positive change through the power of sport. The Summit is part of the Hong Kong China Rugby's efforts to address sustainability, which has seen the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens become a leader in this domain.

 

Inspired by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's vision for sports development and professionalism, the Summit aims to elevate the conversation on sustainability within the sports industry. The agenda will feature a series of thought-provoking panels, each exploring a critical aspect of sport and its impact on society and the environment.

 

Highlights include the following:

 

Value of Sport Lunch: An HKCR annual event since 2013 with the support from New Zealand Consulate General and Laureus Sport for Good. This lunch features panel discussions with world-famous athletes on how sport can positively impact societies. Attendees of the 2023 lunch included representatives from HSBC, Cathay, Richemont, AXA, AIG, BUPA, Ageas, Jardines, Sino, Swire, AS Watson, and Tencent, as well as philanthropic foundations such as Kadoorie, Wofoo, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

 

Panel 1: Why Good Governance Lies at the Heart of Sustainable Sport: This panel will delve into the importance of effective governance in sports organizations, addressing financial, social, and environmental sustainability.

 

Panel 2: Building Inclusive Societies through Sports: Exploring the role of sports in promoting inclusivity, community engagement, personal development, education, fitness, health, and social cohesion.

 

Panel 3: The Green Game - Sports' Impact on the Environment: A thought-provoking discussion on how sports can contribute to environmental goals through awareness, education, sustainable practices, and inspiring action.

 

Panel 4: Innovations in Sustainable Sports Events: Experts will discuss the key factors behind organizing sustainable sports events, including insights into the Kai Tak Sports Park and its potential to lead event sustainability.

 

The Summit will feature esteemed speakers such as former Under Secretary for the Environment Christine Loh, World Rugby Sustainability, Diversity & Inclusion Manager Jaime McKeown, Great Britain 7s player and Scottish Rugby's Sustainability Ambassador Jamie Farndale, and Commonwealth Games 2022 Sustainability Manager Simon Wright Jones.

 

The Summit is expected to attract 150 leaders and key decision-makers from corporations, foundations, and family offices, with a target of 50% of delegates coming from overseas. Attendees will be able to network, engage in interactive discussions, and gain valuable knowledge from industry experts.
