Jockey Club Sevens Community Programme's first-ever Sports Carnival

Over a Thousand People Participated in an All-Round Sports Experience at Ocean Park

(Hong Kong, 27th March 2023) The Hong Kong Sevens 2023 is just around the corner. Hosted by the Hong Kong Rugby Union and supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club as the Official Community Partner of the Jockey Club Sevens Community Programmes, the Jockey Club Sports for All Carnival was held for the first time at Ocean Park on the 25th March. The activity has received an overwhelming response with over a thousand participants, including children, youth and their families, from 23 schools and non-governmental organisations. The carnival aims to promote sports for all and provide an inclusive educational environment where children and youth from diverse backgrounds can actively take part in community sports events.

"Hong Kong Rugby Union expresses its gratitude to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for its support for the Jockey Club Sevens Community Programmes. We also appreciate Ocean Park Hong Kong for providing the venue and complimentary admission tickets for this event, benefiting children and youth to participate in the Jockey Club Sports for All Carnival and enjoy a meaningful day with their families and friends at Ocean Park," said Rocky Chow, Chief Community Officer of Hong Kong Rugby Union. "The carnival was held for the first time, leveraging the popularity of the Hong Kong Sevens to encourage more youth to participate in sports and to enhance public awareness and enthusiasm for multi-sport activities. Also, the rugby learning experience area featured the curriculum developed from the "Jockey Club Rugby United Project", teaching important values such as leadership, teamwork and inclusiveness to participants, thereby strengthening and promoting the development of sports culture in Hong Kong."

The carnival featured nine Sports Booths for rugby, soccer, rowing, cricket, pickleball, lacrosse, netball, skipping and handball, as well as various sports demonstrations. Through these activities, children and youth not only had a fun-filled experience that enabled them to try different sports but also had the chance to learn athletic skills and knowledge that could inspire a lifelong interest in sports.

All participants of the carnival from various age groups and backgrounds, including students, seniors and people with disabilities, will have the opportunity to enjoy watching this world-class rugby event up close and experience the vibrant atmosphere, as well as experience the positive values of rugby through a range of activities under Jockey Club Sevens Community Programmes. These include a Jockey Club Sevens School Tour and the Jockey Club Sevens Community Experience. Furthermore, the Jockey Club Mini Rugby Showcase will invite young local rugby players to showcase their skills and talent at the Hong Kong Stadium in the mornings during the tournament.

The Jockey Club’s support for these sport events, like all of its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax and charity support for the community.
